Saturday Postcard from Poland / Sobotnia pocztówka z Polski

Despite the fact that the days are getting longer now, minute by minute every day, the evenings are still long. We might just as well enjoy what the winter nights have to offer, including the holiday lights at the Warsaw's busiest shopping center Złote Tarasy.

Enjoy the first weekend of 2015!

Clean Start / Nowy rozdział

Welcome in 2015! The beginning of the new year is like opening a new pristine notebook where all pages are still clean and empty, waiting for the new story to be written. As for me, I have a few assignments to write for my studies, including the biggest one - the M.A. thesis. Completing the studies will be one chapter in my book of 2015. I am planning a few more chapters, a few adventures and a lot of pictures to illustrate the book.

What are you going to write this year?

Last Day of 2014 / Ostatni dzień 2014 roku

Today is the last day and the last night of 2014.

It has been a challenging year. It's been a year of many changes and charting new courses. It's been a year of rekindling old friendships and meeting new people. I've learned a lot, I did new things, I surprised myself, in a good way ;-).

There is a brand new year ahead of us. Many things can happen, new adventures await. I am looking forward to it and I wish you and yours all the best, a lot of curiosity, interest, open mindedness, happiness and a bit of luck too.

Happy New Year!

Towards the End of the Year / Końcówka Roku

Hello! Hope you had a nice Christmas. This year, I had a chance to spend a couple of days with my family in Gdańsk during the Holiday Season. Gdańsk is situated in the North of Poland by the Baltic Sea.

The day before Christmas we went to Sobieszewo, a small seaside town, where we used to spend our summer vacations when we were kids. The place hasn't changed a bit save for a fresh coat of paint here and there. It was a warm, but a rainy day. However it didn't stop us from walking around. We reminisced about the summers past, the adventures we had, and he places where we used to buy smoked fish, brioche buns and ice cream.

We went to the beach, which was almost empty. The sea was calm, as if waiting for the Christmas Eve. The colours of the sand, the water and the sky were muted. The whole scene was conducive to thinking about the passing year. The open horizon and the endless sea encouraged looking towards the future and new adventures waiting in the coming year.

How was your Christmas?

CDPB Theme Day: People at Work / CDPB Temat na grudzień: Ludzie w pracy

The first of the month is a theme day at the City Daily Photo Blog and this month the subject is People in Their Workplace. Since December is the month with the shortest days in Poland, our street lights are switched on in late afternoons. These days computers take care of switching on the lights, but in the old days, when the city streets were lined with gas lights, a lmaplighter was responsible for switching the lights on and off, at dusk and at dawn. The city of Łódź has honoured this historical profession with a statue on Piotrkowska Street.
